Prayer of Discipline

Lord, You have not given us a spirit of fear,
but of power, love and of self-discipline.
Everyday I will pray and meditate on Your word,
hiding it in my heart so that I might not sin against You.
I crucify this flesh with its passions and desires,
living according to the Spirit so that
My mind will be governed by life and peace
I pray for love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, making my spirit strong.
Strong to run the race so that I may obtain the ultimate prize.
Through discipline I subjugate my body so that I will preach to others with certainty
Making disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them
To obey everything You have commanded
Chastening may be painful now, but yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness
For those who have been trained by it
Godliness is profitable for all things, and I have the promise
Of that life that now is and that eternal life which is to come.
For if I live according to the flesh, I will die
But if by the Spirit I put to death the deeds of the body, I will live
I pray not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed
By the renewing of my mind, that I may prove
What is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
For I am the light of the world, and I pray that my light may shine before men,
That they will see my good works and glorify You in heaven. Amen.
