Let us never forget in our praise that God is the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. He is the King of Glory and His majesty reign over everything. Not just the earth, but the heavens and over all of time, from the beginning to the end. This song reminds us not only of God’s great glory but that we are commanded to praise Him always and pray without ceasing. When you think of all the wonders of God, it should be a natural response to worship Him. Sometimes we get to a place where we forget to put God first, but setting aside personal time every day to incorporate worship in your life is a sure way to keep Jesus at the forefront. Psalm 24 says:
“A Psalm of David.
24 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the [a]waters.
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah”
David entreats us to remember that it is he who has clean hands and pure heart, who is not worshipping an idol in God’s place, that is the man who shall ascend to the throne with Jesus. Don’t you want to be in that place? Don’t you want to be of Jacob’s generation? Then let us never forget who God is and always put the King of Glory first. Amen.
