By Myself

By Myself – Deon Kipping

The song says we can’t make it without God! By ourselves, it won’t work. But God is our ever-present help, all-powerful and righteous. Let us praise Him, trusting Him in all things! Amen.

Hebrews 13:5-6: “5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”[a] 6 So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”[b]

Psalm 27:9: “Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.”

Psalm 37:40: “And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.”

Psalm 115:11: “You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.”

Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:13: “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’

Something about Mary.

Mary.

We all know her, the mother of Jesus. She’s probably the most well-known woman in the Bible throughout the world.

I was having a discussion with someone the other day about a conversation between Mary and a certain angel. You may have heard of him, his name is Gabriel. And you’ve probably heard the conversation before. If not, you can read it here.

Our discussion centered around Verse 37, which is quite popular:

“For with God, nothing will be impossible.”

As Christians, we reference this scripture quite often. It is mentioned in various ways throughout the Bible: the sheer ability of God is so overwhelming that we often operate in ways that contradict it. We place God in a box. We may acknowledge that He can do anything, yet often times we put a ‘but’ in there for good measure.

Personally, I’ve never doubted God’s ability in a general sense – in my nature, the question is never can God do this, but will He do it….and will He do it for me?

As Christmas is a few days away, my mind is on Mary. What was so special about her? I don’t think there was anything particularly special about her, except her humanity and willingness to be obedient. Her obedience cast her into a load of responsibility that changed the face of the world. And all she did was say yes.

How much can God work miracles in our lives, if only we will cast fear and doubt aside, and say yes? Can we also be impregnated with a remarkable destiny if only we believe?

“For with God, nothing will be impossible.”
